Women Adding Value to the Economy (WAVE) aims to tackle the underlying issues that contribute to gender pay inequalities in Wales in employment and self employment. The project is funded by European Social Fund (ESF) through the Welsh Government.
The Women In Self Employment Resource (WISER) strand of WAVE based at the University of South Wales offer a number of resources to empower and support aspiring women and women already in self employment via:
WAVE WISER Learning offers a selection of courses that will allow you to gain the tools necessary for business start up and the theory and practice necessary to move your business forward.

These courses will be delivered on a one evening a week basis to accommodate aspiring women or women currently in self employment (Wednesday or Thursday) 15:00 – 20:00 subject to validation
WAVE WISER Networking provides resources and facilitates networking opportunities for aspiring and established women business owners. WISER Networking delivers and supports networking events throughout Wales for like-minded entrepreneurial women who wish to utilise the benefits’ of relationship building via networking from business start-up stage through to business growth and development. We provide opportunities to listen to key note speakers, attend workshops, share ideas, exchange tips and good practice and gain inspiration and motivation from other women with a business interest; all in a friendly and supportive environment. We are currently rolling out a number of new support networks throughout the convergence areas of Wales and are keen to collaborate with women considering establishing their own women’s business networks by offering support and resources in line with the ethos of WAVE WISER, which encourages and promotes women’s enterprise and entrepreneurship.

WAVE WISER mentoring scheme matches early career or fledgling women business owner – or those aspiring to become self-employed – with an experienced women entrepreneur to act as a mentor and offer support, advice and practical know-how to help new women-led businesses become established and reach potential. The scheme has a range of benefits including: improved business planning, wider networks, practical guidance and advice, career enhancement and direction, new perspectives, increased confidence and university accredited training opportunities through the WAVE courses.
